A NEW lightning tracker service is available on the Bureau of Meteorology’s (BoM) high definition satellite viewer.

Weather radars cover 90 per cent of the country, but the satellite coverage will add storm tracking capability for large tracts of the outback.

“Adding the new lightning layer to the satellite infrared cloud image will also help Australians living in remote areas with limited radar coverage to identify severe weather and track thunderstorms,” said BoM general manager data Dr Anthony Rea
